This course is intended for technical telecommunications professionals who are looking for a quick technical overview of LTE.2

Course Description:
EPS (Evolved Packet System) is the new 3GPP architecture for wireless broad band data services. It comprises, E-UTRA (Evolved UTRA) or LTE, on the radio access side, and EPC (Evolved Packet Core), on the core network side. Also it integrates 3GPP and non-3GPP legacy technologies. EPS is a framework that allows the migration of 3GPP system towards packet-optimized system that supports multiple RATs (Radio Access Technologies), higher-data-rates and lower-latencies. This course begins with an overview of the EPS network architecture. It then provides insights of downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) operations of LTE (Long Term Evolution). When possible, the short course presents conceptual similarities or differences between LTE and HSPA.

Objectives:

After completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Describe 3GPP technology evolution.
List the key performance requirements for LTE.
Describe evolved system architecture.
Describe channel structure and mapping for DL and UL.
Provide time and frequency OFDMA numerology for DL and UL.
Provide physical channels resource allocation for DL and UL.
Describe overall DL and UL operation.
