 LTE Technical Overview

Knowledge of 3G wireless technologies is recommended.
Audience:
Technical telecommunications professionals with a need for a comprehensive overview of the LTE technology.
Course Description: 

This one day course provides the student with an introduction and overview of the LTE cellular telephony system.  The course opens with a section about the advantages of LTE over current 2G and 3G systems, then examines the standards that support LTE and the standards evolution that leads from 3G to LTE.  Brief technical overviews of OFDM, MIMO, network topology, downlink, and uplink are presented.  Also included are simple call flows to illustrate the signaling and channel usage in typical scenarios including cell selection, registration, and a data call.  Finally, deployment challenges are discussed, including Voice over LTE, Interoperation with other 3G technologies, and performance.
Objectives:

This course enables the student to:

·         Explain the motivation for LTE deployment

·         List the advantages of OFDM and MIMO

·         Describe the LTE Network

·         Describe the downlink and uplink Physical Layer

·         Describe basic signaling

·         List the expected deployment challenges
